Annual Summer Show 09

Compared with last year the weather was kind in the run up to this year’s event allowing the Annual Show to take place in August as planned.  Despite a doubtful weather forecast the weather stayed dry and the sun even managed to shine.   We had a slight downpour mid afternoon which meant the down and out had to be cancelled for safety reasons leaving last year's record of 1m 40 set by Emma Burns and Beth Mullen in tact.

The show was supported by competitors from as far as Sunderland and Hartlepool, but it was the local riders who took top honors in many of the classes.  The show attracted a number of young lead rein riders, many of whom attended their first show.   Ellie Morgan riding Tonk aka “Tom Thumb” from Church Meadows Equestrian Centre was particularly proud of her first rosette and made injured Dad Darren hobble to the catering van for a much deserved hot dog.  Molly Burnside with her new pony Jenny and sister Rebecca on My Fair Lady were both runners up in their respective Turnout classes whilst last years lead rein winner Alice Moralee won the Overall Turnout Championship.

Mrs Peart made a welcome return to judge the Best Rider competition and decide on a worthy winner of the Bill Peart Memorial Cup.  Young Annie Lynch from Sunderland put in an outstanding performance that won her both the lead-rein Best Rider class and the Championship.  Last year's champion, Amy maddison on Indi took Reserve place and was the first to congratulate young Annie.

Mrs H Watson joined us to judge the Best Pony and Riding Club Mounts and put everyone throught their paces to determine the winners.   Each competitor had to complete a show including jumping a fence.  Morgan ridden by Emily Wright, Copper King ridden by Colette Signore and Indi ridden by Amy Maddison first in their respective classes.

The show jumping track was proving fairly straight forward with all the lead-rein and 10 and under competitors jumping clear until the triangular fillers were introduced in the Minimus, leaving a tie on four faults for both Rebecca Burnside and Bethany Heslington.

Jordan McCabe from Crook was the first to show everyone how it was done, completing the first clear round in the Novice class and producing the fastest jump off time two seconds clear of the rest of the field.  Sophie Joyce on the ever reliable Solo Power jumped Clear in a fast time to take third place.  Rebecca Burnside fresh from Paul Barker's show jumping clinic was the only rider to leave all the fences up in the Open Pony to take first prize whilst Lauren Pollock was the only horse to jump around both the Novice Horse and Open tracks taking top spot each time.

Elle and Joe McGregor from Hamsterley enjoyed their first ever show taking home a handful of rosettes each and sharing first place in the fancy dress competition which rounded up this years event.
